Nurse-Initiated Code Sepsis
Doctoral Project, Principle investigator
10/2017 to 02/2018 (in progress)
Funding source: Rutgers University School of Nursing
Synopsis: This is a quality improvement project that is being conducted in a suburban emergency department. A nurse-initiated “Code Sepsis” protocol will be put into effect to ensure timely implementation of the 3-hour Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) bundle. The protocol will utilize triage screening to initiate care of septic patients. The mean time of 3-hour bundle completion and the mortality rate will be determined using chart review. It is hypothesized that the nurse-initiated “Code Sepsis” protocol will expedite care of septic patients in the ED and improve clinical outcomes.
